January 2, 2012 The Music Gallery presents the premier of a new duet co-created by choreographer/dancer Sasha Ivanochko and improvisor/contrabassist Aaron Lumley. The piece tears apart the traditional recital relationship between dancer and musician. These roles are challenged and pushed to extremes as dancer, musician and bass entwine, accompany, disrupt, clash and resound in dramatic, dangerous, and visceral ways.
The night's program also features a set of solos for contrabass by Aaron Lumley. Equally beautiful and brutal, Lumley's solo improvisations mine the full range of colour and character that lies inherent within the double bass.
